With all the "SEO" and paid "AdWords" marketing jargon it can be easy to get confused. If you've found web marketing overwhelming then you aren't alone.

SEO, or search engine optimization is the art of being found by search engines like Google, MSN or Yahoo. In a retail business this equates to getting people to hear about and visit your shop. Though all websites can be improved they should be optimized from the first day of being built. At the heart of SEO is creating content that attracts visitors likely to buy your product or service. A misleading promise is to get "your website on the first page of Google". Without knowing the keyword search that gets you on page 1, this promise is meaningless.

Any paid advertising, such as Google AdWords is a guaranteed way to get traffic. The challenge is paying for all that advertising. A restaurant that places a $500 newspaper ad might win 10 new customers. If they earn $10 per customer visit they'll need 50 just to break even on their $500 advertisement. For some businesses money is best spent on other web marketing techniques. Your web marketing specialist can help you determine if paid advertising works for your business.

There are countless other ways to increase profitable traffic to your website. Keep following our forum and blog articles to learn more.
