The Web Commandments
The web commandments is a collection of concepts that cover various aspects of web development. They are
great tools for planning any web project and we use them to guide our work.
Commandment I - The key thing you do for your site.
Your number one objective is to collect and present information relevant to your ideal web visitor.
This may seem obvious but a majority of websites miss this fact. Instead many people develop their website
with their own needs in mind. The magic happens when you combine the needs of both you and those
browsing your website.
Commandment II - The real reason people visit your website.
Before you commit to building a website you must research what you'll offer
your customers. Consider your competition and what makes your product or service special.
Know this you can consider your prospects and what problem you'll be solving for them. Be
honest with yourself and decide if what you can offer has a clear advantage over your competition.
If it doesn't then you can save yourself from failure by considering other options.
Commandment III - Why being found by Google isn't enough.
All the hype around SEO (search engine optimization) has caused many to lose sight
of the ultimate goal. Unless your website is for a one time promotion you want to
create an on-going sustainable business. SEO optimizers can get you 'flash in a pan' results
but only quality content on your site will bring visitors back again and again.
Commandment IV - Why you should offer less to your web visitors.
A decade ago the first of everything was coming into a new web world. Now the scene is
very different with the obvious product and service leaders established. By offering less
you can either achieve a Niche market or sell your company as a specialist. You can't
crack the broad topics so why not focus on your passion?
Commandment V - There are many ways to monetize your website.
Although high traffic can generate advertising revenue from search engines like Google
and Yahoo! you should consider other options for creating income from your website. Many
businesses have been built around affiliate referral programs. Provided that you have
taken our advice and made your site informative to visitors seeking answers they will
be more open to accept a referral from you. This is because you have build a trust by
helping them to find answers. Popular options are real-estate sales and rentals and loan products.
Commandment VI - Is it a good business idea?
What you like isn't always what everyone wants. Survey peers to get feedback and ask them to be
completely honest. Resarch the competition to see if you are in for an uphill battle.
We help refine your business idea because we only build sites we think will succeed.
Commandment VII - A rose by any other name...
Romeo once said a rose by any other name is still a rose; but
would you recommend friends visit www.1two3ezmoolah.ru for the best financial advice?
Names like www.moneyforliving.net win out every time because they are easy and memorable domain names.
Commandment VIII - What are you providing and to whom?
Sounds obvious huh? Try writing down exactly what your website is providing and why someone would want
to visit your site. Then review your list and honestly answer this question...
Why would people visit your site over existing websites?
Commandment IX - How do you plan on promoting this?
If you think "Google" or "SEO" then we need to shake that mindset. The dot com bubble era is over. Successful web businesses offer value and promote many ways.
Traditional media such as business cards, flyers, mail-outs and trade-shows exist for a reason.
